WHERE DO I STAND ON THE ISSUES?
FULLY FUNDING METRO SCHOOLS
We need to ensure our state and local officials increase funding for Metro Schools to not only sustain, but increase the supports and resources they need.
INVESTING IN TEACHERS & SUPPORT STAFF
We need to invest in our teachers and support staff by supporting pay increases, addressing staffing shortages and retention, creating and implementing policies that provide more sustainable work conditions, and providing continuous opportunities for professional development.
SUPPORTING THE SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL WELL-BEING OF STUDENTS AND STAFF
We need to advocate for more advocacy centers, mental health counselors, restorative practice professionals, increased community partnerships, wraparound support services, and mental health access for staff.
ADDRESSING LEARNING LOSS, IMPROVING ACADEMIC OUTCOMES AND CLOSING THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP
We need to prioritize early literacy & foundational skills proficiency, expanding access to high dosage tutoring and individualized support, providing equitable access to advanced academics, and career (vocational) education programs so that every student, no matter who they are or where they live, will achieve academic success and be prepared for college, career and life.
IMPROVE COMMUNICATION AND CREATE STRONGER FAMILY-SCHOOL-DISTRICT PARTNERSHIPS
We need to center the voices of those most impacted (families, students and staff) by the decisions we make on the School Board and across the MNPS.
